Over the last few years, the major fabric companies realized that with the textile inventories that they already carried, why wouldn’t they create lines of upholstered furnishings that customers would like to own.  This would expand their product line, shorcut the customers’ shopping time and peak the imagination of both designers and their clients.

Lee Jofa was early onto this idea.  Having been founded in the early 1800′s, Lee Jofa has always been a name synonymous  as a supplier of fabrics of quality to customers with  current and  distinctive taste.  They were bought in 1995 by the fourth generation, privately held company Kravet Fabrics.  Kravet and Lee Jofa have kept Lee Jofa as a separately marketed division, staying with the original high end level of fabrics they always sold.  In addition, other brands have been purchased to be sold from the Lee Jofa showrooms that would enhance and coordinate with their products.  The contemporary fabric company, Groundworks was a year old in 1986 when it was acquired by Kravet.  It is sold alongside Lee Jofa as a perfect pairing with their upholstery designs.  In 2001 Kravet purchased G.P.and J. Baker as another fabric group to add to the Lee Jofa showrooms.

Throughout 2001 – 2007 Kravet has concentrated on its licensing program with major designers to showcase their fabric and furniture inspirations.  Early collaborations were with Anthony Barrata and William Diamond, Suzanne Rheinstein, David Easton, Allegra Hicks, David Hicks, Thomas O’Brien, and Eric Cohler.  Recent additions have been with Kelly Wearstler in an inspired collection of geometrics and signature prints with Groundworks.

Atlanta based Suzanne Kasler shows her style expertise through a new collection of classic yet modern reinterpretations of paisleys, suzanis, jaquards and more.

The iconic company Lilly Pulizter has also been a recent bright addition to Lee Jofa.

We love the bright colorful world of Lulu deKiawatowski – better known as Lulu DK.  Growing up with the Hamptons and Bahamas as a back drop, schooled at the Parsons School of Design  and travels to exotic Morocco, Paris, India and Peru prompted her eventual career as textile designer.  Her style is full of saturated color. whimsy and twists such as fanciful embroidery.  She launched Lulu DK Fabrics in 1998 and since has been featured in every design magazine multiple times.  Her most recent project has just been released in collaboration with Schumacher Fabrics as a collection of bright whimsical textiles for children’s rooms.

What little girl wouldn’t delight in the bright happy colors of these patterns.  The curtains are done in Lollipop in Turquoise with the Twix coordinating trim.  The  mushroom ottoman is in Firecrackers in Coral ( don’t you just love its shape?) and the monkey has been created in Lulu’s Jellybean print in Pink Lemonade and Macaroni stripe in Punch/Coral.  Easy to coordinate, clean, and happy.  What more could a child’s room need for a backdrop?

The monkey is joined by the elephant in the next combination of fabrics – perhaps for a little boy’s room?  The tent has been made in Parade in Multi backed with Stars in Sunshine colorway.  Cute?  Couldn’t you just see this as a “surround”/ canopy to a crib?  What makes this collection fun is how well the colorways in all the patterns coordinate and how easy it is to accent with any one of the bright fabrics.
